PMP Exam Changes on 9 July 2026 — Everything Candidates Need to Know
PMI has confirmed that the PMP exam will be replaced on 9 July 2026, aligned to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition released in November 2025. This is not a minor refresh — the domain weightings have shifted substantially, new topics have been added, and the question count has increased from 180 to 185 across a four-hour window.

Practice PMP questions while you read
Questions graded, hints, and explained.
- Artificial intelligence in project environments — understanding AI-assisted decision making and tool adoption
- Sustainability obligations — environmental and social governance as a PM responsibility
- Value delivery over scope, schedule, and cost — outcomes-first thinking
- Governance as a standalone domain (replaces Integration from PMBOK 7)
- Finance as a distinct domain (replaces Cost Management)
Should you rush to sit before July?
If you are already 60%+ through your preparation on the current version, sitting before 9 July is probably the right call — the existing exam is well-documented, practice questions are plentiful, and the study path is proven. If you are just starting out, preparing for the new version makes more sense. The July 2026 exam will be the standard for years, and PMBOK 8 is a more coherent framework than the 7th edition for most practitioners.
What this means for candidates
- Check your study materials are aligned to the right exam version before purchasing anything
- Business Environment at 26% means one in four questions touches strategy, AI, sustainability, or value delivery — this is no longer a minor section
- The 60% agile / hybrid weighting is unchanged in direction but reinforced — pure waterfall thinking will not pass this exam
- PDU requirements for maintaining the credential remain unchanged at 60 PDUs every three years
