Scientists counted the numbers of five different animals in the river at sites A and B. Table 2 shows the results. Complete Figure 7. You should use data from Table 2 for the sludge worm and the bloodworm.

How to approach this question

1. Look at Table 2 to find the data for the sludge worm. At Site A, there are 80. At Site B, there are 2. 2. Look at the key for Figure 7. Site A is the white bar, and Site B is the grey bar. 3. For the "Sludge worm" category on the x-axis, draw a white bar up to the 80 mark on the y-axis. Draw a grey bar next to it up to the 2 mark. 4. Repeat for the bloodworm. From Table 2, Site A has 36 and Site B has 8. 5. For the "Bloodworm" category, draw a white bar up to 36 and a grey bar up to 8.

Full Answer

For Sludge worm: Bar for Site A should be at 80, bar for Site B should be at 2. For Bloodworm: Bar for Site A should be at 36, bar for Site B should be at 8.
The task is to plot the data from Table 2 onto the bar chart in Figure 7 for two animals. - **Sludge worm:** Table 2 shows 80 animals at Site A and 2 at Site B. On the chart, under "Sludge worm", the bar for Site A (white) should be drawn to a height of 80. The bar for Site B (grey) should be drawn to a height of 2. - **Bloodworm:** Table 2 shows 36 animals at Site A and 8 at Site B. On the chart, under "Bloodworm", the bar for Site A (white) should be drawn to a height of 36. The bar for Site B (grey) should be drawn to a height of 8.

Common mistakes

✗ Reading the wrong values from the table. ✗ Confusing the bars for Site A and Site B (plotting the colours incorrectly). ✗ Inaccurately drawing the bars to the wrong height on the y-axis scale.
