I keep getting different answers when I try elimination vs substitution. How do I know which method to use?
Both methods will give you the same answer if done correctly! For these equations, elimination might be easier. Notice if you multiply the second equation by 2, you get 4x - 2y = 2. Now look at the coefficients of y: you have +2y and -2y. Adding these equations will eliminate y completely. Try that approach!
