    How to approach this question

Identify the four chambers of the heart. Remember that diagrams of the heart are shown as if you are looking at the person, so the left side of the diagram is the right side of the heart, and vice versa. Recall the path of blood flow: blood from the lungs is oxygenated and returns to the left side of the heart.

    Full Answer

    A.A✓ Correct
    A
The heart has four chambers. The right side (D and C on the diagram) handles deoxygenated blood, and the left side (A and B on the diagram) handles oxygenated blood. Blood flows from the atria (upper chambers) to the ventricles (lower chambers). Oxygenated blood returns from the lungs via the pulmonary vein and enters the left atrium, which is labelled A.

    Common mistakes

✗ Forgetting that the heart diagram is reversed (left on page is right side of heart). ✗ Confusing atria (receiving chambers) with ventricles (pumping chambers).
