How to approach this question
Describe the procedure for the Sit and Reach Test step-by-step. Include details about the starting position, the action of reaching, key rules (like keeping legs straight), and how the measurement is taken and recorded.
Full Answer
The individual sits on the floor with their legs straight out in front and feet flat against the sit and reach box. They should have no shoes on. Keeping their legs straight, they reach forward with both hands, one on top of the other, as far as possible along the measurement scale. The score is the furthest point reached and held for at least two seconds. This should be repeated three times and the best score recorded.
The Sit and Reach Test is a common measure of flexibility, specifically of the lower back and hamstring muscles. The protocol is as follows:
1. **Setup:** The participant removes their shoes and sits on the floor with legs extended straight ahead. The soles of the feet are placed flat against the sit and reach box.
2. **Execution:** With hands on top of each other and palms facing down, the participant reaches forward along the measuring line as far as possible. Knees must be kept straight.
3. **Measurement:** The participant holds the position for at least two seconds while the distance is recorded.
4. **Repetition:** The test is typically performed three times, with the best result being recorded as the final score.
