The ankle joint (talocrural joint) is a synovial hinge joint formed by the articulation of three bones: - **Tibia:** The larger of the two lower leg bones, which forms the main weight-bearing surface of the ankle joint (the medial malleolus is the bony prominence on the inside of the ankle). - **Fibula:** The smaller lower leg bone, which runs parallel to the tibia (the lateral malleolus is the bony prominence on the outside of the ankle). - **Talus:** A bone in the foot that sits above the heel bone (calcaneus) and articulates with the tibia and fibula.

Naming bones from other parts of the leg or foot, like the femur or metatarsals.
